Without fail, every time I’ve seen Benjamin Moore Boothbay Gray I fall more and more in love with it. In this post, hopefully you will too.

What Color is Benjamin Moore Boothbay Gray?

Boothbay Gray HC-165 is a beautiful blue gray paint color and it is one of those that really can look great in any lighting situation. You could pair this with a cool paint color to bring out its stunning blue or you could pair it with a warmer paint color to tone it down if you desire.

Honestly, this color seems boring in the Benjamin Moore paint deck. This is also such an argument for how important it is to research colors and see them in person and not on a computer screen.

You definitely will want to see this on your walls in your specific space and if you don’t want to paint a sample on your wall, this would be the perfect time to try Samplize.

They offer giant peel and stick samples of paint swatches from Sherwin Williams, PPG, Ben Moore and Farrow and Ball that you can add to your wall so you can spend a little bit of money once instead of a lot of money on multiple samples.

What Undertones Does Benjamin Moore Boothbay Gray Have?

Boothbay Gray definitely has gray undertones to its blue, but it also can have a hint of green in warmer lighting situations, like when the sun is setting during the evening or if you happen to have warm white light bulbs in your home.

Boothbay Gray LRV

Boothbay Gray has an LRV of 43.16.

The LRV, or Light Reflectance Value, of a paint color is on a sliding scale of 1 to 100.

The closer a color is to 0, the closer it is to black which means it won’t reflect light well or at all.

The close a color is to 100, the closer it is to white which means it will reflect light very well.

Boothbay Gray Coordinating Colors

Benjamin Moore always provides its picks for coordinating colors with their paint colors.

In this case, Benjamin Moore has two separate color palettes with colors it recommends with Boothbay Gray

• Horizon
• Yarmouth Blue
• Wickham Gray
• Stone

While those are great colors, I always like to take a look at the paint deck fan and choose some other options I would (or have) paired it with.

Benjamin Moore Wrought Iron

We have repainted all our interior doors a very similar color (Sherwin Williams Iron Ore) and the deep charcoal would really bring out the beautiful blue of Boothbay Gray.

And if you happen to have doors with glass or french doors, you have to try this trick to perfectly painted French doors with NO hassle!

Benjamin Moore Hale Navy

Navy goes with really anything (even black!) but if you’re looking for a combination that’s a true chef’s kiss, Benjamin Moore Hale Navy and Boothbay Gray would be a match made in paint color heaven.

Benjamin Moore Gray Owl

We chose Benjamin Moore Gray Owl for our newly remodeled guest bathroom and even though we lightened it 50%, it still shows like a very cool and calming light gray paint color that could work very well with Boothbay Gray.

Boothbay Gray vs. Coventry Gray

Boothbay Gray looks way more blue with gray undertones than a shade of gray. Benjamin Moore Coventry Gray is a cool gray with blue undertones, but is a darker color and reads darker and much more gray once it’s on walls.

The LRV of Coventry Gray is 46.35 which is higher than Boothbay Gray’s 43.16, meaning Coventry Gray not going to reflect as much light as Boothbay Gray.

Coventry Gray could make a beautiful and relaxing gray paint color for bedrooms, though.

Trim Color Choices for Boothbay Gray

Boothbay Gray could have any white as a trim color because of its stunning and serene shade. You could choose to make your white more crisp and bright or use a more creamy white that would allow a bit of softness in the space.

Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace

Benjamin Moore Chantilly lace could be a perfect choice for a white trim paint.

It has no super obvious undertones, making it great with either a warm or cool paint color. It’s not a super bright white but still feels white, crisp, and clean.

Benjamin Moore White Dove

White Dove by Benjamin Moore is also a great choice, but its undertones are a bit warmer.

Don’t get me wrong – it is beautiful and very clean, it’s just not a very bright white. If you’re looking for a brighter white, Chantilly Lace is going to be more your speed.

Boothbay Gray Equivalents In Other Popular Brands

Sherwin Williams Equivalent to Boothbay Gray

Color matching paint colors, especially when you cross brands are never going to be exact. Each brand has its own special nuanced formulas for creating colors.

Strictly looking at the Sherwin Williams paint deck fan, the closest match seems to be Sherwin Williams Stardew, but Stardew feels like a cooler blue. Boothbay Gray is a very unique color and because of its uniqueness, you will be hard pressed to find something like it.

Behr Equivalent to Boothbay Gray

The closest Behr equivalent to Boothbay Gray is Watery, but again, feels a bit more cool blue than Boothbay Gray. Quite frankly, I don’t love it nearly as much.

Final Thoughts

Boothbay Gray is such a unique blue gray paint color and it would be a great addition to any space in your home. With the versatility of this color, you could use it on walls, on cabinets, or even trim and doors.
