Dark Green Paint Color Ideas
A roundup of the most popular dark green paint color ideas that would be a great way to bring in bold color in any space in your home
Didja see? Didja see? I just posted about our “semi-final” design plans for our shared girls’ room a little while ago. Eek!
I use the term “semi-final” because like I talked about in that post, there are so many things that are either on back order or that I’m having trouble bringing myself paying for at the moment so things could get wild and we have to change some design elements, but the main idea won’t stay the same.
Meaning the entire room is going to be designed around my love for the floral wallpaper we chose and deep forest green paint of some sort.
What are the most popular dark green paint colors?
Now listen, I don’t claim to be the end all be all knowledge of a particular shade of green paint that will look great in every home office or living room, but I have been on a hunt for a paint color that will be a great starting off point for matching with our floral wallpaper.
I wanted to find something a bit darker than olive green, but trying to avoid blue undertones since there’s approximately zero blue going into this girls’ room.
Some Favorite Dark Green Hues I’ve Found
Clare – Current Mood
I have never used Clare paint, but I’ve been a HUGE fan of them. I’ve also had friends of mine that have used it and said the quality is incredible.
The shade in this room is Current Mood and… issa mood indeed. The way this color is styled, including the deep green velvet ottoman with the white wood bedside table with the light and airy curtains is *chef’s kiss*.
Benjamin Moore – Caldwell Green
I love seeing this color here mainly because it’s also on a board and batten-esque wall which is similar to what we will be doing in the girls’ room.
Benjamin Moore – Backwoods
Okay, okay. I’ll admit this puts me in all my feels. Sweet little white crib, vintage rug, dark green board and batten feature wall and wallpaper above it. This is very in line with what we’re thinking, so seeing this already done well has me excited to get their room started, even with all my nerves.

Sherwin Williams – Pewter Green
A greeeennnnn kitchennnnnn. If you didn’t know, green is my favorite color and seeing it in interior design just makes me super happy. Whether it’s jewel tones, olive green, kermit green, whatever.
Okay, maybe not kermit on the walls, but a good bright green accent piece or pillow I can get on board with.
Sherwin Williams – Billiard Green
Another great contender in my quest to find the perfect dark green paint color is Sherwin Williams Billiard Green. I’ve seen some photos of this color where it definitely looks darker than it does here, even though I love it in this photo, especially paired with the medallion rug.
Just like I’ve said when I’ve talked about paint colors in our home in the past like our use of Sherwin Williams Alabaster basically everywhere and especially when I try to help you guys color match paint colors (Magnolia to Behr Paint or the discontinued RH paint to Behr), it is so important to put the color in your own home and try it out in different light settings.
Magnolia – Regal Leaf
I’ve had my eye on this room for a while now because it stops me in my tracks every time I see it. This actually made me want to put this color in our own bedroom, but I figured I could just live vicariously through our fabulous children instead.
That’s why you have them after all, right? ????
Behr – Royal Orchard
What got me most about this kitchen was the before. Mind blowing.
I feel that this color most likely won’t work in our girls’ shared room just because the leaves in the wallpaper we chose seem (at least online) to be a bit too dark for this. But it doesn’t mean I don’t think it’s freakin’ stunning and a great choice when it comes to dark green paint colors.
The idea of painting your kitchen cabinets the same color as your wall behind them is something you don’t see much, but I love it. Makes the space feel just totally seamless.
Sherwin Williams – Woodland Lichen
Oh, to list the things I love about this room. First, we have this exact rug in our son’s neutral nursery so it has a special place in my heart.
Next, the leather headboard and wood accents. Drool.
Finally, the fact that the wall behind her bed is BRICK. Ugh. Love it. Having the dark green paint bedroom accent wall be a BRICK accent wall just adds icing to the delicious cake.
Benjamin Moore – Cushing Green
Last but not least, is Benjamin Moore Cushing Green.
We have thick baseboards like this and looks like she has craftsman style trim just like we do too so I like seeing elements of design that we have in our house to get a feel for what it may or could look like.
There are TONS of great dark green paint color options that would work well for your home and I can’t wait to see it in our shared girls’ room too!
Thank you for this wonderful article. I think green is beautiful everywhere.
We used Behr Royal Orchard in my son’s room and I LOVE it! I painted the bottom 2/3 with it, the top 1/3 a gray-white with molding and separated it with a wood-stained 1×8. It looks classic and amazing and I was so happy with the choice.
Oh, and I meant to mention, the color looks NOTHING like those kitchen cabinets. It is definitely more mossy, similar to the Backwoods color you have up htere
Thank you for letting me know this!! Super helpful info 🙂
