Embracing Cozy Aesthetics
Layering Textiles for Warmth
Winter is the perfect excuse to pile on the cozy layers and ya girl loves cozy.
Think chunky knit blankets, faux fur throws, and textured pillows.
Mixing textures like wool, velvet, and sherpa adds depth and creates a snug lil’ atmosphere.
Choosing Warm Color Palettes
Swap out cool tones like your Christmas red and green for warm ones like deep burgundy, rich mustard, or a taupe.
These colors bring a sense of coziness to any space.
Complement them with metallic accents like gold or aged brass for a touch of winter fancy schmancy pants.
Incorporating Seasonal Decor
Seasonal decorations don’t have to scream any certain “holiday”.
Instead, opt for subtle winter touches like pinecones, evergreen branches, and dried floral arrangements.
Nature-Inspired Elements
Adding Greenery and Seasonal Plants
Winter greenery like eucalyptus, cedar, and holly can instantly freshen up your home.
Arrange them in vases, wreaths, or garlands to add a hint of the outdoors.
However, if you’re like me and need as low maintenance as possible, especially after the holidays, faux greenery can be just as stunning.
Highlighting Earthy Tones
We are big fans of earthy tones year round, but especially when it comes to transitioning from Christmas to winter, colors like like clay, sand, and olive green are trending this season.
And in case you’re wondering, why, yes I do have a post on my absolute favorite dark green paint colors just in the nick of time!
Use these colors in throw pillows, decor, or rugs to create a casual, yet very polished winter feel.
Lighting for the Winter Season
Layered Lighting
I don’t know how much daylight they’re trying to save, but my god. Getting dark at 4:30 feels criminal.
Which means lighting becomes even more essential.
Layer different light sources like table lamps, floor lamps, and string lights to create a warm and inviting glow.
Consider dimmable options to customize the brightness depending on the time of day.
Using Candles and String Lights
Nothing says winter like the soft flicker of candlelight.
But if you have kids or just adults who can’t be trusted around fires, try my absolute favorite real look LED candles that come fully equipped with a remote too!
Or as I call it, something else for the kids to fight over! Hooray!
Maximizing Natural Light
Take advantage of the natural light you do have by keeping windows clean and using sheer curtains.
Mirrors can also help reflect light and make your space feel brighter and more open.
Winter decorating is all about creating a space that feels like a warm hug, and like the great theologian Olaf from Frozen says, “I like warm hugs”.
By layering textiles, incorporating natural materials, and playing with lighting, you can transform your home into a cozy retreat.
I love a good trend, but I also love even more when it’s practical and doable! So decorate away, my little flower!
