OUTDOORS

Fact: The people that lived in our house for 25+ years before us won yard of the month EVERY single month.

Another fact: I wouldn’t win yard of the month if we were the only house in the neighborhood.

Don’t get me wrong – I would love to, but I have zero idea what I’m doing.

DIY mailbox makeover

A few years ago, we did this super easy DIY mailbox makeover, but it stopped there and even that is looking pretty shabby.

So today I’m giving you some front yard landscaping ideas that will hopefully inspire me to get off my butt and do something about this yard or hire somebody to.

Landscaping Ideas for your Front Yard

Monogram Flower Letter

Okay so technically this isn’t in the yard, but it definitely can spruce things up by adding color and aroma near your front door.

You can make a planter from scrap wood or a few inexpensive pieces from your local hardware store. Hang it by your door as an entryway decor or on maybe on a fence to upgrade your front yard.

Spilled Pot Flowers

This is a great way to upcycle materials if you’re into that kinda thing.

Try a fun, whimsical landscaping design like tipping over a flower pot to avoid the headache and stress of perfect flower placement.

Then scatter your plants like they’ve spilled out. And because the pot doesn’t need to be functional, you can use broken or damaged pieces, saving you some dollas. Holla!

Try a Simple Water Feature

I get that water feature doesn’t scream easy, but they’re actually not terribly difficult to upkeep in the right climate and life situations.

Building a small pond in your front yard can be an amazing way to upgrade your landscaping.

And while your mind may be flashing dollar signs at the mention of the word, it’s quite affordable and fast. You can build a relaxing pond with a waterfall feature as fast as one weekend while sticking to a tight budget.

Accent Existing Trees

In other words, use whatcha got.

Accent any trees you have – or plant some if you don’t!

There are tons of ways to make this ring – mulch, bricks, stone, rocks, flowers, or a combination of all!

Keep Flowering Plants to a Minimum

If you don’t have the ability or the time to keep flowering plants alive or research ones that won’t die in your climate, it might be best to stick with mostly green plants and shrubs.

In my mind when we do our own front yard landscaping, I’m thinking way more green than flowers. As gorgeous as I think they are, I do not trust my ability to keep them looking that way.

If You Got It, Flaunt It

That being said, if you do however have a green thumb, do it.

Plant alll the flowers with alllll the colors and enjoy it!

Super cheap flowers from a local nursery or Lowes/Home Depot can go really far in your front yard landscaping.

Mix in Rocks with Mulch

Rocks and mulch and mulch and rocks.

Seriously though, rocks can be super expensive (We have priced them out) but by mixing in mulch and rock, you can stick within a decent budget and still get the look you’re going for.

Show Your Personality

One of the whole reasons behind me creating this blargh right here is to show you that your own home can have personality.

Why not let that speak to the landscaping of your home too? 🙂

Stamp concrete with a cute saying, your last name or heck, even a hand giving a middle finger if you’re so obliged. It’s your world, baby.

Small Areas Make a Huge Impact

Even if you don’t have a lot of “real estate” landscape-ily speaking, you can still pack a punch with a really cute walkway that allows your guests somewhere to walk other than your newly manicured lawn.

In the same vein of our own DIY mailbox makeover, Lauren took it a step further and made it a larger area with bushes and flowers.

You can use bricks to edge your space to give it definition.

Hopefully these landscaping ideas have your wheels turning for what is possible in your own front yard!

Now if one of y’all can just come do it for me, I would be forever grateful.
