White Couches With Kids (plus an Ikea Ektorp Sofa Review)
What it’s really like to have white couches with little kids and an honest Ikea Ektorp sofa review that we have had for almost 3 years
You ever have a post that just writes itself?
That was absolutely the case with this. One of those that I just wasn’t planning but because I’m a real human with real life probz, I had a post write itself for me. I did not, however, have the pictures take themselves so forgive the poor quality. Like I said, not planned but if I didn’t laugh about coffee on my wall and take pictures of it, I would cry so there’s that.
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen that last week that I had barely an inch left of coffee in my cup and left it for a single second and a half and somehow our little Josiah spilled it EVERYWHERE.
When I say everywhere I mean it looked like he brewed an entire pot of coffee himself and then just threw it on my wall and couch and floor and the play kitchen that sits next to our couch.
So, as I was taking off the slipcover, I decided to make it into a post about what it’s like having white couches with kids but also a mini review on our Ikea sofa we’ve had for quite some time now.
White Furniture With Kids
Y’all ready fa dis? The real life of having white furniture with kids.
And then there’s like a random….unicorn horn??
No idea what this is or how this got here, but here we are. Also, for what it’s worth, I don’t consider this “white.” It’s like off white, but whatever. Let’s talk about this Ikea Ektorp sofa while we’re at it here.
Is the Ikea Ektorp Sofa Comfortable?
Yes. 1000 times yes. We have both the sofa and the loveseat and we love it. I’m 5’4 and my husband is 6’3 and we both think it’s super comfortable. No complaints here!
Is the Ikea Ektorp sofa good quality?
I mean, it’s Ikea so we aren’t talking like handmade, artisan Restoration Hardware quality but seriously this thing is super durable. As you can see from the photos.
How do you clean it?
This thing is so easy to clean. All the slipcovers come right off. We joke and call the slipcovers “disposable” because the one we have is UNDER $50. Meaning if that coffee didn’t come out (WHICH IT DID!) we could get basically a brand new couch for nothing.
I take everything off, throw it in the washing machine and then let it air dry on our drying rack.
After it dries, you just put it right back on and you’re done!
I love that Ikea has multiple covers you can choose from so you can create a different feel. Ours is lighter for a more bright feel, but they have others to choose from that will match your own style and feel in your house.
Sadly the ektorp has been discontinued as of October 2020 in the US . I’m devastated!!! I have the sectional and we also have the sleeper sofa which they stopped making a few years back so no slip covers for the sleeper for awhile…Now no covers for my beloved sectional I’ve had it for Atleast 10 years and it is In awesome condition. They are replacing the ektorp with a similar option but the replacement covers will not fit the ektorp. I’m very upset with IKEA such a betrayal.. couldn’t they have warned us? I could have hoarded covers. I recently purchased a replacement cover for the sectional through Amazon during the store closures in the early part of the pandemic I must say it is awesome!! You can find a few retailers on Amazon who custom make to order ektorp covers. My next purchase is a pretty blush velvet number I’ve been swooning over for a little bit. So to all the ektorp lovers out there shoot IKEA an email and tell them they’ve made a huge mistake discontinuing our beloved sofas! ~Cyndi
NOOOO!!! I hate it when they do that. The product they replaced it with is basically EXACTLY the same but like $100 more. WOOF. Come on Ikea, read the room ????
