In 2023, the Sherwin Williams color of the year was announced and it’s a SHOW STOPPER! Come see this one of a kind color in real homes!

PAINT COLORS
Sherwin Williams Redend Point
I really love when big name paint brands, especially Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams choose their color of the year.
I never quite understand the science behind their choice, but it always ends up being a color that you see not only within paint, but in decor items as well. Let’s dive in to see this super unique color that has been comically referred to by some as “hotdog water” LOOOOL.
What Color is Sherwin Williams Redend Point?
Redend Point (SW 9081) is a mid-tone, lush rosy brown paint color. It has hints of berry and terracotta, with comforting warmth to it that will make any room feel inviting.
This means it’s great for areas like living rooms and bedrooms.
Plus, its depth and vibrancy will really carry over onto accent pieces like pillows or rugs, adding an extra layer of style to any room.

I took this photo of the color in the Sherwin Williams paint fan deck up against the walls in our den that are now painted Behr Ultra Pure White, which is a pretty neutral white paint color.
However, your lighting situation and paint colors in your own home will determine how this color will show up for you.
Enter Samplize! They offer giant peel and stick samples of paint swatches you can add to your wall so you can spend a little bit of money once instead of a lot of money on multiple sample paint pots.
You can try Samplize here if you’re looking at any paint colors from Sherwin Williams, PPG, Benjamin Moore or Farrow & Ball.
What Undertones Does Sherwin Williams Redend Point Have?

This is a one of a kind shade for sure.
Sherwin Williams’ Redend Point is an earthy color with a rosy brown tint. It is a warm paint color that can be used in many different spaces in the home. This color works well with both light and dark lighting situations, making it an ideal choice for any room.
The subtle pinkish-brown hue of Redend Point makes it perfect for creating a cozy atmosphere in any room. It pairs well with other warm colors like beige, cream and taupe, as well as cooler colors like blues and greens.
This versatile color can be used to create a variety of looks from modern to traditional.
Redend Point LRV
Redend Point has an LRV of 30.
The LRV, or Light Reflectance Value, of a paint color is on a sliding scale of 1 to 100.
The closer a color is to 0, the closer it is to black which means it won’t reflect light well or at all.
The close a color is to 100, the closer it is to white which means it will reflect light very well.

I made this (super non professional) graphic to hopefully help you understand if you’re more of a visual learner which is super helpful in a pinch.
Redend Point Coordinating Colors
Sherwin Williams typically provides its picks for coordinating colors with their paint colors.
Because this color is so unique, finding colors that pair well with it was difficult, but not impossible.

Sherwin Williams Alabaster

Before we finished our kitchen renovation, we had Sherwin Williams Alabaster in about 90% of our home.
It’s a warmer white paint color with creamy undertones that would pair well with the warmth of Redend Point.
Sherwin Williams Iron Ore

I wouldn’t consider Iron Ore a true black, but with its rich color, Iron Ore is a great option to add even more depth.
Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog

Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog is a gorgeous green color that has taupe undertones. Adding Redend Point in the same room as Evergreen Fog could make for a really cool desert boho vibe.
I think it would look amazing, especially since Redend Point has those same taupe undertones.

Trim Color Choices for Redend Point
Since Redend Point is a bold, but warm color, you most likely want a warmer white for trim color. My suggestion is Sherwin Williams Pure White.

In all of our flip houses, our white of choice is Sherwin Williams Pure White.
It’s the perfect balance of warmth while still providing the crisp white color that doesn’t look dingy or dirty.
Redend Point Equivalents In Other Popular Brands
Benjamin Moore Equivalent to Redend Point

Color matching paint colors, especially when you cross brands are never going to be exact. Each brand has its own special nuanced formulas for creating colors.
Being that Redend Point is extremely unique, the closest I could come up with on the deck fan was Benjamin Moore Baywood Brown.
It has an LRV of 34, which is slightly higher than Redend Point – meaning it won’t be quite as saturated.
This would be a good option if you’re a fan of the color, but want something a little more muted. Just be cautious of undertones as always.
Behr Equivalent to Redend Point

The closest Behr equivalent to is Spiced Brandy.
Again, it’s got its own nuances and will not be the same and while I am a HUGE fan of Behr paint, I think as far as actual color goes, Redend Point would win this match for me.
Final Thoughts
Being compared to things like hot dog water or Arizona Assisted Living Facility means that this color is cleary polarizing and is not for everyone.
However, I still think it’s a bold choice and I’m here for it!
