8 Gorgeous Mauve Paint Color Options
As an 80s baby myself, I can honestly say that most things from the 80s I would really like to leave there.
But there are always exceptions to every rule and as of late, that rule is mauve.
Mauve paint color and mauve home decor items are coming in, especially as an aesthetic for fall and I am DIGGING IT.
So I did a bit of “digging” if you will and found you 8 awesome mauve paint colors and I’m sharing them with you all today if you’re wanting to bring some of this into your own home.
What color is mauve?
Mauve is in the purple color family, but it isn’t quite as bold and with mauve paint colors, they tend to lean more into the pink side of purple. Sometimes the mauve color tends to have brown or dusty tones mixed in so it can really be a great way to bring in a neutral color.
Mauve is a lot softer than the straight-up purple color and it’s gained traction in a lot of home decor items lately and ya girl isn’t mad about it at all.
So without further adieu, here are 8 awesome mauve paint colors:
8 Mauve Paint Colors
Valspar Twilight Mauve
This shade is in the purple family, but it leans more into the dusty side for sure. I love this shade because it’s got cool, brown undertones to it so it doesn’t feel scary or overwhelming in a room. The thought of painting a room brown makes me a little anxious. But this shade of mauve is not alarming to me.
The LRV of this 41.8. Remember from my Sherwin Williams Alabaster post where I talked about LRV – the closer the number is to 0, the closer it is to black (which means it’s dark). The closer the number is to 100, the closer it is to white (which means it’s light).
Benjamin Moore Mauve Desert
Coming in a little darker with an LRV of 37.27 is Benjamin Moore Mauve Desert which is a more traditional mauve color.
This shade leans into the dusty mauve family and it has warm undertones, but nothing too drastic. I think this paint color would look amazing in an office space or bedroom of a home!
Glidden Dusty Mauve
Now if I’m being 100% honest, the one time we have used Glidden paint, it really didn’t cover as well as I’d have hoped but I’ve been super spoiled with Behr like the color we did in our primary closet and the color we did on the girls’ nursery accent wall.
But I really did like this color when it came to mauve paint colors because I feel this option gives a bit more of a rich color versus just the undertones. This color does lean more pink, but if you’re looking for a way to marry both pink and purple, this is a great color choice.
Sherwin Williams Chaise Mauve
I’m really not even sure why, but I think this might be my favorite of the bunch. Chaise Mauve by Sherwin Williams is a lighter mauve and just looks so soft and pretty.
This color screams cozy fall to me and I love the idea of painting a bedroom in this shade with a simple white duvet set and white sheets. Not for us, though. If you’re seen our messy house tour you know that this family should never own anything white. Ever.
We have cream colored couches that luckily are from Ikea so they have washable slipcovers but other than that, it should be illegal for us.
I digress.
Benjamin Moore Mauve Mist
This color has one of the lowest LRV of all the mauve paint colors in the list at 35.93, but it leans the most pink to me.
I think this could really pair well with SW Sea Salt if you played your cards right – maybe a feature wall of the Benjamin Moore Mauve Mist in a bedroom or a living room. The world is your oyster – I’m just out here trying to help you see the beauty in mauve paint colors while you’re living in it.
Benjamin Moore Iced Mauve
The “opposite” of Benjamin Moore Mauve Mist, Benjamin Moore Iced Mauve has the highest LRV at 51.17 and you can see here the difference in color. It’s way more purple and has a bit more cool undertones of any on this list.
This color just reminds me of light purple lilac blooms that are perfect for spring. I know this is a shade that would be amazing in the right home, just not ours, ha. I am scared of most color remember?
I have a weird relationship with color. I either want it to be all light and barely visible that it’s a color or I want it to be super dark like our interior doors which are Sherwin Williams Iron Ore and are still one of my favorite easy paint projects we’ve done in our house.
Sherwin Williams Studio Mauve
The LRV of Sherwin Williams Studio Mauve is right on in the middle at 50, so it’s a bit darker than Iced Mauve but still leans toward purple more so than pink. It’s got brown undertones and conveys a bit warmer which makes sense since BM Iced Mauve is *iced* mauve.
I do really like this color as well and think it would look amazing with a grey couch – for us personally, we have been looking at other couches for our living room since we plan on getting rid of these once we (hopefully finally) get a kitchen.
Benjamin Moore Mauve Blush
This gives me Sherwin Williams Chaise Mauve vibes, but a bit deeper. I feel like this would be a great mauve paint color for a room where you want to add some drama and elegance.
The graphic does look a bit darker, and it is at an LRV of 29.67, but it’s still not a super deep color. To me, this is the one that feels the most like the 80s. I feel like this would be the color that would have been in every upscale home on the side of a Hollywood hill.
Whether you’re looking for a subtle and soothing mauve paint color or an eye-catching stunner, I hope this list gives you a good idea of what mauve actually looks like!
