$100 Room Challenge – Week 2
Sharing our progress as we are in week 2 of the $100 room challenge, where we have $100 budget to makeover our pantry
We are only in week 2 of this $100 room challenge, but I have to tell you guys. I’m already loving it way more than our first room challenge and feeling a JILLION times more confident. Probably has something to do with the size of the space and the fact that we did not have to take out walls down to the studs.
Eh, ya live and ya learn I suppose.
I’ve decided to show a lot of behind the scenes on Instagram, so you most definitely want to follow along there if you’re not already! Step one was to remove all the food and gingerly set it …. everywhere. Anywhere you can find space really. Not obnoxious at all.
Once we removed the food, out came those nasty wire shelves.
Did you guys know that if you are painting your shiplap you have to actually paint the WALL behind the shiplap? I didn’t and was quite saddened to find this information out, but alas, I did it.
I’m going to sound like a broken record, but I shared on Instagram stories as well as this post what color we are going with which is Benjamin Moore Paris Rain. I painted one coat and knew it was the right choice. I love it. Spoiler alert, though, it’s insanely difficult to get a photo of an accurate representation of the color. It looks different in literally every picture, but take my word for it – it’s so great.
Our second to last step of progress for this particular week was marking where the studs are in the wall so that we can know where to screw in our shelf supports. Our last step you ask? Letting our 3 year old Picasso feel like she’s helping by drawing art on the walls.
Doesn’t bother us. It’ll be covered up anyway, but we will always know it’s there and just a sweet reminder of her little brain at this age.
Like I said, I’m really liking the slower pace of this project. It feels much more manageable. Now, what to do with all this confidence I have in our abilities at the moment? Anyone need us to lay some tile or hang sheet rock? TOTALLY KIDDING!
Looking good! I love the feeling of re-doing a space! I’m excited to see how it turns out!
Yay! Iโm excited to see too! Haha
I had no idea you had to paint before putting up shiplap, good to know. I’m excited to see the end result.
Me either!! It wasnโt too terrible luckily!
I’ve never used shiplap and had no idea you had to paint behind it. Good to know.
Yea me either!! That was all knowledge from my husband ๐
Can’t wait to see how your pantry ends up turning out. It looks like you are off to a great start.
Thanks so much!! Iโm excited how itโs turning out
I love the $100 room challenges! Can’t wait!
Carmen- this looks like such a fun project! I can’t wait to see all of what do you. Maybe I will get some good ideas to steal!
Yes I would totally love it if I can give you some type of inspiration somehow!!! If you do, I’d love to see what you do ๐
I had no idea you had to paint behind shiplap! Sorry you had another job added to your list :(!
Glad I’m not the only one!!! Luckily, it was NOT that bad since the room was small! ๐
Ahh, so jealous that you are removing those wire shelves- wish we could do that in our closet! I’m excited to see where you go with this space!
It’s so crazy how everyone hates these wire shelves and yet they’re in every closet ever made in a house haha
One. I love the name of the color and the color itself. Two. I cannot wait to see how this turns out. Three. I didn’t know the same thing about painting the wall behind shiplap. We redid our fireplace. I did a post about it and what my husband came up with was so clever. It was a smaller surface so it worked.
Oh yay! See we had done shiplap beside our fireplace too but the walls were already white so we didn’t have to worry about it. This on the other hand apparently had to be painted but since it was so small, it wasn’t too bad!
Looks like a big project – I can’t wait to see how it turns out! I love the color of those doors!
Hopefully not too big! I’m excited about it. And thank you for the compliment! It’s Sherwin Williams Iron Ore!
