Benjamin Moore Aegean Teal
When Benjamin Moore Aegean Teal (BM 2136-40) hit the market as BM’s 2021 color of the year, this gal flipped her script with glee.
Finallyyyy, we get a blended shade of blue-green with some serious substance and hellah versatility.
This saturated yet subtle shade of teal gives me the pleasure of an ocean vibe without the intensity. Check out how well Aegean Teal can empower any space with trendy, subtle earthy saturation.
What Color is Benjamin Moore Aegean Teal?

Aegean Teal is a gorgeous shade of mid-toned sea-inspired mixed blue-green paint color. This blended teal is more subtle than a traditional deep teal, giving you a soft, yet colorful wall color.
You definitely will want to see this on your walls in your specific space, and if you don’t want to paint a sample on your wall, this would be the perfect time to try peel and stick paint samples from Samplize.
They offer giant peel-and-stick samples of paint swatches you can add to your wall, so you can spend a little bit of money once instead of a lot of money on multiple samples.
When we were attempting to figure out the color we wanted for Josiah’s beadboard accent wall for his new room refresh we are working on, I tried out 2 options and wrote all about the pros and cons of Samplize here.
What Undertones Does Benjamin Moore Aegean Teal Have?
Without a doubt, the undertones of Aegean Teal lean real heavy on the gray, but it’s not obnoxious.
It provides the perfect balance of cool to the color that makes it work for *almost* any lighting situation, depending on how you feel about colors with deep saturation.
Aegean Teal LRV
A paint color’s LRV, or Light Reflectance Value, is on a sliding scale of 1 to 100.
The closer a color is to 0, the closer it is to black, which means it won’t reflect light well or at all.
The close a color is to 100, the closer it is to white, which means it will reflect light very well.

I made this (super non-professional) graphic to hopefully help you understand if you’re more of a visual learner.
Aegean Teal (or BM 2136-40 on their site) has a low LRV of 25.13. So, your color will vary in appearance and intensity based on the lighting.
Use care when working with a darker, low LRV paint color in rooms that are small, cluttered, or lacking in strong lighting, especially a natural source like windows.
Benjamin Moore Aegean Teal Coordinating Colors
Sometimes even harder than finding a paint color is finding colors that will go well with it in your space. Here are some of my top picks of a color palette that would go great with Aegean Teal.

BM Chantilly Lace
A super popular neutral white paint color, Chantilly Lace is a great color to use on walls or trim.
BM Hale Navy
I’m a sucker for navy and Hale Navy is one of the best dark blue paint colors available!
BM Buttercup
Now this one is just fun. If you’re looking for a great way to add in even more color, Buttercup just might be your answer.
I could see these colors really working well as part of a beachy color palette as well!

The smoky gray notes add fabulous moodiness that exceeds the underlying shadows in Aegean Teal.

Final Thoughts
Benjamin Moore Aegean Teal can be the perfect color choice for any room where you want a soft yet densely saturated earthy ocean nuance. I can totally see us using this in a future beach house (if we can ever finish this freaking mountain cabin)
Add this low LRV, mid-tone blend of blue-green with smoky gray undertones up high on walls, or go low on cabinetry.
From the bedroom to the kitchen, inside your home, or on the outside, BM’s 2021 Color of the Year can be your home’s dream shade come true.
