DIY Glass Dry Erase Board

A perfect addition to an office or kitchen command center, this inexpensive DIY glass dry erase board is something you can make with wood and a piece of glass from a 16×20 picture frame

If you were for some reason unaware, we’re currently redoing our office for the spring edition of the One Room Challenge this year. So far, so good. I’m feeling really great about the progress and the pace of our smaller projects to make up the totality of our office makeover!

We just finished our wallpaper accent wall and seriously the more I stare at it, the more I love it.

It’s just everything I really truly wanted. But see that blank square on the left? We wanted to add some symmetry to this wall over here so we decided to add a glass whiteboard to help balance things out. Well, I guess you can’t call it a “glass whiteboard” if it’s not white, right? So, a glass dry erase board.

This took a little creativity since we didn’t have a router. For internet, yes we have a router but did you all know there’s a tool called a router? News to me too. But cheers to having a super creative bearded fellow that lives in this house that came up with another way.

Creating the glass dry erase board:

Once J cut the 1×3 trim pieces for the frame of the glass whiteboard, then he lowered his table saw until it was barely sticking out and ran the four pieces through it to create a faux routered …. thing. Line? Edge? I don’t know. I’m clearly not the brains behind this operation, but it looked like this. Does that help? That little cutout is where the glass for the dry erase board will “sit” once it’s up against the wall.

We knew it wouldn’t be the exact same size as the built in shelves on the right but we were okay with that. We got a piece of glass custom cut for our door in our guest bathroom and while we love it, she wasn’t cheap and I just wasn’t willing to spend that on our office just to be writing on it with marker. Instead we found an old 16×20 frame we weren’t using anymore and just borrowed the glass from that and I’m not mad about it at all. Jordan nailed up the bottom piece of trim first to make sure it was all going to line up. Once we were certain that everything was going to line up great, then all we had to do was piece together the other pieces of trim and would ya lookie there?!In the pictures, you can’t really even tell that there’s glass in there, but I wrote on it so that you could tell. I’m so excited how easy this was! Having a glass dry erase board is going to absolutely come in handy. Especially because I find myself trying to flesh out a month’s worth of posts in one sitting and lemme tell you, issa jungle up here in this noggin’ so this simple glass “whiteboard” is just the thing I need! Or I might just use it to write weird funny words that make me laugh. Like buttz. HA!
