Thankful Thursdays: Our Unfinished Guest Bathroom

Tell all ya friends and neighbors!

SOMETIMES FINDING IMPERFECTIONS TO BE THANKFUL FOR MAKES YOU REALIZE THAT YOU REALLY CAN FIND A SILVER LINING IF YOU CHANGE YOUR PERSPECTIVE. HERE IS AN UNFINISHED PROJECT THAT I COULD BE UPSET ABOUT, BUT RATHER HAVE DECIDED TO BE THANKFUL FOR PLUS A SMALL GUEST BATHROOM RENO UPDATE.

This is the time of year where most people decide that they want to be thankful for everything. Personally, I really do try to surround myself with things and people that make me recognize the things I have – even if they’re not perfect or “magazine shoot worthy”, and live a life of gratitude.

I couldn’t think of anything more perfect to start off a (potentially) new blog post (series?) than the project that nearly derailed this blog entirely: our guest bathroom renovation.

In April, we decided to jump in on the One Room Challenge, which is where you take on a room to completely redo and finish it in six weeks. We decided to gut our guest bathroom. Something we wanted to do but had approximately 0.00% experience in doing. We had high expectations and high hopes, but the six week time line proved to be darn near impossible.

However, here is why I’m thankful for it:

MY HUSBAND

Week 2 of our One Room Challenge in remodeling our guest bathroom! He works (more than) full time and still comes home to find time to learn and do things he’s never done before like tiling, installing and leveling a tub, and even helping our plumber change plumbing from one sink to two.

LEARNING TO CELEBRATE SMALL WINS

You guys, WE (he) FINISHED THE TILE SATURDAY AND I DANG NEAR CRIED. Tears of joy, obviously. Something about the tile being done makes me feel the rest will come eventually. For so long, it looked it looked like this:Guest Bathroom Remodel Ideas #oneroomchallenge Guest Bathroom Remodel #oneroomchallengeAnd although we still have to grout it and clean up a bunch, this is what we are working with as of THIS MINUTE:

IT TELLS A STORY

In case you are new around here can’t tell yet, I love a good story. I’m all about letting your house tell its own story as well. This bathroom will be able to tell very many stories.

Do I wish this bathroom was already finished? YES. Do I wish we would have gotten it done in the 6 week timeline? ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTELY. But just because it’s not,  just because our first huge project didn’t go as planned, I’m going to choose to be thankful!

Happy Thursday to you all!  I’d love to hear in the comments what you’re choosing to be thankful for this week.

  1. Ohhhh yes, be thankful. We started to remodel the bathroom in the basement about 5 years ago so guest could use it, it had a toilet and gutted poorly formed walls. We have the tile done on the floor, that’s it. This winter it’s “focus like a laser beam” on our main floor time! The basement bathroom must be done before we can even contemplate the main bathroom on the bedroom floor, because hubby works too much also. I have to remember at least we have a warm comfortable place to live.
    Your bathroom is looking fantastic!

    1. Thank you so much!!!! And I totally agree. Being warm and comfortable totally and will always trump an unfinished project
