Toddler and kindergarten age kids got you stumped as to what to buy for Christmas? I’ve got you covered with our kids’ favorite things that are both practical and well loved!
Sometimes I get hella overwhelmed when it comes to Christmas for the kids because I don’t like spending a ton of money on things I know they’ll outgrow or get tired of.
PLUS, I’m already about 3 shakes of a lamb’s tail away from throwing away everything they have anyway because of bickering, throwing, or a combination of the 2.
I’m a firm believer in toys not having a gender (i.e. “boy” toys and “girl” toys), although since we have kids of 2 different age brackets, they’re for sure interested in different things just mainly because of cognitive development.
So, continuing along in my “favorite things” series, here are some of our kids favorite things that they love and play with over and over and over.
In case you’ve missed any of the other favorite things posts this year, you can see them here:
Favorite Things 2020
For reference, Charlotte is 5 and Josiah is 2.
Favorite Bath Toy: Although Josiah eats these (*eye roll*), these are the one toy in the tub that I can almost guarantee they won’t fight over. They’re super cheap and wash right off them or tile like we have in their bathroom!
Favorite Music Toy: Although Josiah throws the stuff in it and hits us with the drum sticks (*eye roll*), they actually play nicely with this. It can get loud, but since it comes with several different instruments, they can take turns playing different instruments.
Favorite Game: I don’t know what it is, but Charlotte loves a card game! And the 4 pack of these cards comes in a GREAT price of barely $1 per pack! Win!
Favorite Bedtime Sidekick: Other than their loveys and sound machines, this light has paid for itself over and over. It will be in their room when they share a room at some point next year, but for now it’s just in Charlotte’s and she loves this thing. It has a remote and her favorite part is choosing her color every night. Puts off the perfect amount of light without being obnoxious.
(His) Favorite Toy: A couple months ago, Jordan’s dad brought 3 metal Tonka trucks that were his when he was a kid and they’ve quickly become his favorite toy. While our version is 30+ years old, the new ones seem similar in quality! It feels pretty terrible when he runs it into the back of your ankles, but other than that, this sturdy toy is awesome. Great for inside or outside!
Favorite Mess Free Activity: Josiah is at the age where he’s obsessed with markers, but I, on the other hand, am very unobsessed with him drawing on everything. These magic ink markers make it all better. She can read and do the activities since she’s older and he can scribble and make colors appear and he loves it!
(Her) Favorite Pants: Much like myself, getting this girl into anything other than leggings is a fight. So, instead we just buy these for under $10 a pair (and many times closer to $5 a pair!) in nearly every color and print they make!
(His) Favorite Pants: Okay, to be fair these are our favorite pants for him, but whatever. They’re cheap, versatile and fit him better than any pants he owns. He’s got short stubby lil’ leggies but a tiny waist so I love that these have a real drawstring we can use. The cuffed bottom also helps with the stylish factor too.
Favorite Cups: She always loved a Camelbak, but because Josiah is way more mischevious than her, he learned quick he could push the spout INSIDE the cup (okay, but like, HOW JOSIAH?!) and then he would just turn the cup upside down and pour water out š” With these cups, he cant do that which makes ya girl super stoked!
Favorite Imagination Toy: When I say this thing gets touched or played with every day, I mean every single day. (That’s what she said?) We just decorated it this year for Christmas and she’s super cute and festive right now, but even when she’s nude, both of them “cook” nonstop. It’s great quality and speaking from experience, can take a beating or 10.
If you’re like me, you’re still shopping and when I made this list, everything was in stock and available. Holla! Here’s to happy kids and more importantly, happy parents!
