How To Simply Decorate A Nightstand or Dresser
A FEW TIPS TO SHOW YOU HOW TO DECORATE A NIGHTSTAND OR DRESSER IN A BEDROOM THAT LOOKS GREAT ON A BUDGET AND A SNEAK PEAK AT OUR MASTER BEDROOM SO FAR
Although we’ve had to take a little break to plan a nursery, we are still working on our master bedroom. You can check out our design plans for that if you’re interested. It’s not quite finished yet, but it’s real close.
If you’re wondering, I have VERY LITTLE eye for things decor. It’s actually my husband who is way better at that kind of stuff than me so I tend to trust him if he wants to do something decor-wise even if I put up a fight at first. He actually took over my Instagram account a little while back to show how he styled our dresser, but for those of you who may have missed it, first of all SHAME ON YOU. Fool me once …. or something.
I also like having things in a more permanent spot like this here bloggy bloggington blog. Note I’m no professional and you can probably find conflicting advise elsewhere, but this is just from my perspective on the whole shindig. So, here’s what our master bedroom looks like right now thanks to my husband:New bedding is here! Nightstands are here! Lamps are just swoonworthy! It’s everything I dreamed. (<– Ha! Dreamed! Get it? Cuz this is a bedroom. Mmmk. Let’s move on.)
I feel the need to say that these nightstands are apparently discontinued and when we first looked at them, they were on sale for a little more than $100, but then in just a few days, they dropped to $65!!!! We snatched those bad boys right on up and waited patiently by the door for days, refreshing my computer every 5 seconds waiting for shipping updates.
Now let’s talk about actually how to decorate a nightstand.
In all actuality, I didn’t even do any of this. Jordan did and surprised me with it when I came home from out of town one weekend. Here are some tips that I stole learned from him.
How To Decorate A Nightstand
LAYER
By adding things of different heights on your nightstand, you add dimension. On my side, you can see that our lamps are the tallest thing on the nightstand, but then we have things of different heights to add dimension. Cute little plant (that I can’t kill), the wooden sign, and the box that’s holding my earrings that I’ll show you guys later. On his side, he also has a little plant (that I can’t kill) and a candle on a stack of books to give it some more height as well. That candle smells SO DANG GOOD in case you were wondering. Not an ad. Just a really nice PSA to go find you one if ya can.
THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX
lol cuz this is about to be a pun. So, this white box holding my earrings is actually designed to be a wall hanging. What I really mean is find things that you love and find a way to use them maybe in an unconventional way to decorate your nightstand.
LESS IS MORE
What did with our nightstands and our dresser was very simple. We didn’t try to just find all the things and put them on this dresser. I feel like our house stays cluttered approximately 99.999% of the time, so it’s nice to not have this here.
PRACTICALITY IS KEY
I think this is probably the most important tip on how to decorate a nightstand, at least for me. The reality is, storage is lacking in our bedroom (at least for now) so I needed something with a drawer to hide things in. I also didn’t want a lot of crap on top of it because I wear glasses and am dang near blind without them and I didn’t want to go throwing off things and breaking them in the middle of the night if I’m fumbling around like a blindfolded fool in the middle of the night.
That’s about all the tips I can think of at the moment. Do any of you have any styling pro tips? Asking DEFINITELY not for a friend, but for me.
