Affordable Green Velvet Couches under $1000!

It’s no secret that green is a favorite color around here.

We used a deep blue-green in our primary bathroom vanity that we painted for a much-needed update.

We used a pretty seafoam green (Sherwin Williams Oyster Bay) in our laundry room makeover.

Oh yeah, and we used Benjamin Moore Paris Rain in our $100 pantry makeover that is no longer there since we started our massive kitchen renovation!

I’ve also talked about the Sherwin Williams color of the year – Evergreen Fog, a sage green. Aaaaaand we chatted it up real nice about my favorite dark green paint colors when we did the feature wall for our daughters’ shared bedroom.

Okay, okay. You get it.

I have been pining over a green velvet couch for a very long time, and while I don’t know if it’s possible, a girl can dream, right?

If you’re like me, you may have a few questions about velvet couches and if they’re suitable for your family, so let’s dive in.

Is Velvet a Good Fabric for a Couch?

Yes! Velvet is actually a really great fabric for a couch. It’s soft, luxurious, and adds a touch of elegance to any room. It’s also durable and can withstand much wear and tear, which is somewhat surprising, at least to me.

Velvet has always seemed like a sensitive, finicky fabric, but it really depends on the velvet quality.

Couches are made to be sat on, so most furniture manufacturers will consider this when making their velvet couch.

Is a Velvet Couch Easy to Clean?

This is the number one question I had. Having durable and easy-to-clean furniture is a must-have if you have pets or kids.

We currently have the IKEA Ektorp sofas (that are now discontinued) with removable slipcovers. They’ve been HEAVILY lived on and still come clean with every wash. We’ve had trouble with only a few spots, but nothing noticeable.

Article.com has a super in-depth article about how to clean a velvet couch, so if you’re looking for step by step, you can look there, but here are some quick hits:

Top tips for cleaning a velvet couch:

Pillows should be fluffed and propped up regularly
If possible, avoid direct sunlight to prevent discoloration
Use the soft brush attachment on a vacuum for dry messes and dust
Use a steamer when needed to fluff; just go against the pile

Are Velvet Couches Dated?

This post may contain affiliate links which help me pay for things like web hosting, site security, email services and bottles of wine from Aldi when the aforementioned things aren’t working. They cost nothing for you, but help me continue to provide free content to you fine, beautiful people!

Absolutely not! Here’s exactly why I believe that.

Velvet couches come in various colors, shapes, and sizes, making them versatile and able to work with any style you have in your home.

Velvet also has a vintage feel to it, which I love.

How Do I Make A Green Velvet Couch Work for My Space?

Styling a green velvet couch can work for you – even if you have pets or kids!

Since we already learned that velvet is a more durable fabric than you may have previously known, here are some tips to make it work for you.

Decide on the vibe

A green velvet couch can work in many decor styles, but you want to first think about how you want your space to feel.

Choose your main textiles

Especially rugs and curtains.

A good rug anchors your space, and curtains can help control the light and temperature in your room.

Both of these can set the tone for your space and make your green velvet couch fade into the background or be the star of the show.

Add pillows & throws

Pillows and throws are an easy way to add pattern, color, and texture to your green velvet couch. They can also be swapped out seasonally or whenever you’re feeling like a change.

And if you have kids or pets, they can be easily removed and thrown in the wash as needed.

Dial it up or tone it down

If you’re trying to compromise with a significant other, you may be looking for a way to tone down the green velvet couch.

When you place accent pieces in the room, try including wood or earth tones throughout the rest of the furnishings.

Green velvet couches, or velvet couches in general, are increasing in popularity because of their versatility and ability to fit into any home decor style. Velvet can last for years with proper care, making it an excellent choice for people who have kids, pets, or are just looking for a stylish, reasonably low-maintenance couch!
