Revamp Your Bedroom for Summer in Just One Weekend
Our primary bedroom is in need of a MAJOR overhaul but, ya know, kids and whatever.
At least the girls’ room is still super cute and Josiah’s big boy room is SO close to being done!
In the meantime, I’m dreaming up how we could potentially update our own bedroom for the summer and at least thought I could share tips with you so if you’re more ready to do it than we are, you can get a move on it!
This post may contain affiliate links which help me pay for things like web hosting, site security, email services and bottles of wine from Aldi when the aforementioned things aren’t working. They cost nothing for you, but help me continue to provide free content to you fine, beautiful people!
1. Declutter and Simplify Decor for an Airy Feel
This is absolutely going to be my step 1. Nothing feels good as a good declutter and getting rid of all the crap you thought you’d need and somehow don’t.
Or the toys that you hide in here for holidays and then forget they’re there and so you have to buy them again.
Never happened to us. Never.
2. Display Fresh Flowers in Unique Vases or Bottles
One of the best parts of summer is all the gorgeous blooms this time of year.
Display them in unique vases or repurposed bottles to add a touch of nature and color to your room.
Dahlias are a great, vibrant choice, but you could also always go with something that screams summer like a sunflower.
3. Hang String Lights for a Soft Glow
String lights can add a soft, romantic glow to your bedroom.
Hang them around your bed frame, along the walls, or from the ceiling to create a whimsical, cozy atmosphere perfect for summer evenings.
4. Upgrade Bedding to Lighter Fabrics
Swap out your heavy winter bedding for lighter fabrics like cotton or linen.
These materials are breathable and perfect for keeping cool on warm summer nights.
This is a great chance to bring in a coastal vibe to your bedding too with shades of blues, whites, and tans.
5. Swap Heavy Rugs for Lighter, Breathable Options
Replace heavy, thick rugs with lighter, breathable options.
Natural fibers like jute or sisal are great for summer and add a touch of nature to your decor. These rugs are also super easy to clean and maintain.
Psst. Scared to online rug shop? Here are the best places to buy rugs online for a great price!
6. Install a Ceiling Fan for Added Air Circulation
Listen, if you live in the south, chances are you already have a fan installed because holy hotness, Batman.
But a ceiling fan is a functional and stylish addition to any bedroom. It helps improve air circulation and keeps the room cool, making it more comfortable during hot summer months.
And if you’re not wanting a full blown fan, try a fandelier (like this fandelier from Amazon that’s my absolute favorite and so gorgeous).
7. Rearrange Furniture to Maximize Space and Light
Rearranging your furniture can instantly refresh your bedroom.
Maximize space by moving larger pieces away from windows to allow natural light to flood the room.
You can also create a cozy reading nook (which hello, you know I’m a fan of!) or a minimalist workstation (ew work, but necessary, right?) by rethinking your layout.
8. Incorporate Watercolor Prints for a Soft, Summer Aesthetic
Watercolor prints add a soft touch to your bedroom.
Choose prints with light, calming colors like blues, greens, and pastels.
If you’re more of a DIYer, try your hand at THE EASIEST abstract art I’ve ever done! (and I’m absolutely terrible at art)
9. Add a Summer Scented Candle
Introduce summer scents to your bedroom with candles or incense. Think of fragrances like citrus, lavender, or ocean breeze to help you feel like it’s a gorgeous summer day and help you relax.
10. Hang Lightweight Curtains
It’s no secret I am IN LOVE with the velvet curtains that we have in the girls’ rooms and Josiah’s room.
AND for a nursery? Blackout curtains for SURE!
However, if you’re looking for a summer bedroom refresh, replace heavy drapes with lightweight curtains to let in more natural light and keep the room airy.
Sheer or linen curtains are perfect for summer, allowing sunlight to filter through while maintaining privacy.
11. Incorporate a Pop of Neon for a Playful Twist
Add a playful twist to your bedroom decor with a pop of neon.
Whether it’s through accent pillows, artwork, or small decor pieces, neon colors can energize the space and give it a fun, summery vibe.
Even if you don’t like the heat of summer, you can’t deny that the sun, flowers, and all the vibrant colors that come with it are a mood-boosting source of inspo.
Try some of these refreshing ideas to transform your bedroom into a summery relaxing space and enjoy the season in style.
