Narrowing Down Guest Bathroom Ideas

Tell all ya friends and neighbors!

Sharing our narrowed down plans for our upcoming guest bathroom renovation plans for the Spring 2018 One Room Challenge

Are y’all getting sick of hearing about our guest bathroom renovation plans yet? We’ve talked it about them so much. This is a project that we have been planning since we moved in, but really planning details as of late. April 4th begins the One Room Challenge. If you’re interested on what that is, you can read more about it here, but basically you get 5 to 6 weeks to totally redo one room. I mean, it’s pretty self explanatory, tbh.

I thought it might be cool for you guys to see how we operate. We have all the options, then narrow it down to a few, decide on one, change our minds fiftyleven times, then go back to the one we originally chose. It’s fun over here. We’re also going attempt to do this as cheap as legally possible.

If you’re thinking that I’m the designer and the one who comes up ideas and plans, then you’d be MEGA wrong. I’m terrible at that stuff. Execution of details is my jam, but if you give me a blank slate, you’re going to very much get back a blank slate. Perhaps with a little doodle of a ladybug wearing a top hat in the corner.

Since, this a complete gut job and our very first gut job, I’m terrified, but go big or go home. BUT WHAT DO YOU DO IF YOU ALREADY ARE HOME?! Regardless, here’s some of our narrowed down options:

Floor and  tub tile:

We plan to tile the floor and tub. We want plain ol’ white subway tile for our shower with darker grout lines. I just think the dark grout looks so sharp. Plus let’s be real, if we’re planning on having a house full of kids one day and having those house full of kids having their friends over, dark grout is going to be way easier to keep clean don’t you think? I mean look at the ones in our inspiration photos. ALL the heart eyes for that. Well done, Rachel and Caitlin!

We’re also planning to be a little bold on the floors since it’s a small room and go with patterned tiles. We will see. The thought of them scares me because I’m afraid I’ll get sick of them, but we’ll see.

Vanity options:

Ugh. This is the worst part. So, our issue is that we currently have a single vanity but need a double vanity. Which is cool and all but the standard double vanity is 60″. How exciting is it that our space is only 55″? Hooray! So, we are very limited in our choices. In fact, out of the 3 shown above only one fits and it’s totally my least favorite. First world problems, right? It’s okay. We’ll figure it out.

Mirrors:

For our choice of mirrors, I want simple. I want them to match the design and be big enough to be functional, but I don’t really want them to be a focal point or anything. Easy peasy. Bingo bango.

Vanity lighting:

We haven’t really decided on bronze or black fixtures. We do know we will have three single lights. Light, mirror, light, mirror, light. That’s the layout. Got it? Good. There’s a test later.

Sink:

Truthfully, these sinks are everywhere. They’re all about the same price. We are leaning towards this one because it’s smaller and we are going to try to squeeze a double vanity in a space where currently there is only a single vanity and having a smaller size sink will give us more counter space. Wish us luck.

Vanity faucets:

Since the plan is to have a black vanity and black tub surround (see below), we are thinking these gold/brass accents to give something fun to the design. Who says floor tiles have to have all the fun, AMIRITE?! Look, I’m just trying to make this not boring to read. I’m doin’ the best with what I’m twerking with at the moment.

Bathtub and shower faucets:

See what that arrow is pointing to in the picture on the left? That tub surround. LOVE IT. Diane over at Spruce and Pine made this masterpiece. Her work is incredible. The only thing we’re changing is going to make ours black. Which means you won’t be finding a DIY post from us because we’re going to be following hers! We NEVER promised to be original up in here.

Sheesh. Okay. I think I covered everything for this guest bathroom renovation plans. If not, it’s really okay because the reality is this will most likely change between now and April 4th when we start swinging hammers. It’s okay though. As long as you plan for it to cost twice as much as you expected and take 4 times longer, it will be a success!

No, it's cool. We're made of money.
